Ian Cooper
Hi. The foams in my seats are shot and I'm about to start refurbishing the seats and thought its a good time to replace the rubber diaphragms, which are also on their last legs. However I cannot find these items listed (573900) anywhere. I can find all the TR's, Stag, Heralds etc but GT6 items are nowhere to be found, and for that matter I could not even see Spitfires listed. Does anyone know where I can source the correct items or if the Herald/Vitesse items will fit? Many thanks Ian
johny
I read of one case where the replacement diaphragm didnt last 5 minutes and certainly pattern rubber parts in general seem to be pretty poor☹️
Colin Lindsay
I couldn't find any for my MK1 and ended up fitting straps instead; if you make them or adapt them yourself they're quite supportive. I bought these but had to tighten them slightly. https://www.jamespaddock.co.uk/seat-base-strap-kit-mk1-11-

daverclasper
I think most/all the current ones sold, are a bit generic and may require simple mods to the frame (eg, drilling different holes) and alternative hooks maybe?. Baines do some Triumph ones, and maybe better quality, as do manufacture at least some/all? of their stock, I understand?
Peter Truman
On the Dolly Sprint I used 9in Bungie straps the hooks just fitted the seats tubular frame. I used around 8 and interlaced them it works great and the seats are very comfortable.
Pete Lewis
Classic Cars (coh-baines.co.uk) yes diaphragms listed for all but the GT6 and lots of useful stuff direct from the manufacturer ?? does the Gt6 have a diaphragm not just a foam in a cage ????? I nearly asked that myself - the Mk3 definitely just has foam in a cage but I'm not sure on the Mk2. Certainly there's not a lot of space down the bottom of a GT6 seat. johny
Mk2 at least, looks like a diaphragm in the WSM...

I replaced my foams and found my head pressed on the ceiling. Rear end comfortable, neck, not so much. Mk3 diaphragm is a piece of cardboard. 68vitesse
If using webbing straps I was advised by an upholsterer that the seat base needs stronger ones than the back. Regards Paul.

Regards Paul. If you think of it logically.... yes. There's no limit to the number of straps you can put on though; just attach firmly at either end. Across the seat, diagonally, interwoven... whatever it takes to give you the required firmness. A PO on one of mine was quite inventive:
johny
hmmm not sure that solution is going to impress the OP🤣
dougbgt6
As previously mentioned the mk3 arrangement is cardboard. This sits in a wire frame with the foam on top. It takes my vast bulk, so I wonder how easy it would be to construct a frame? Doug

dougbgt6
Yes I know, I'm just saying the mk3 appears flimsier than mk2, but it works so why not manufacture something. Doug

Pete Lewis
i would think the mk3 set up is much cheaper to produce than the mk2 so all down to bean counter upgrades pete
Pete Lewis
wire coat hangers make brilliant gas welding rods but they dont seem to be used these days Pete
iani
E-type S1/S2 diaphragms will fit, I've just had my Mk1 seats retrimmed with them fitted. They are slightly shorter than GT6 diaphragms but will fit and easily available.
