Fuel pump leak

Having just replaced the fuel line from the pump on my Vitesse, I can not seem to get a seal from the olive inside the union nut that was supplied with the new pipe.

I have not ever done this before so any tips would be useful please?

It should have been 1/4" pipe and olive. Double check the fuel line is through the olive when you insert into the pump, then tighten with some gently pressure to ensure the pipe isn't coming back out as you tighten. You could also try some PTFE tape around the thread.

Thanks Darren, it is the right pipe (kit purchased from James Paddock) but the fuel comes up the centre of the union nut, suggesting that the olive isn't sealing before the nut locks down!

How far into the pump is the union going before it gets tight? This is mine:

 

 

For your sanity, take out the pipe, check pipe, olive & union are all the right size (don't assume just because you ordered the right bit!), then make sure the olive is fully on the pipe when you insert and tighten.

 

If it still leaks then I'd be inclined to get the union and olive from a different source and try again.

Thanks again, I will have another measure. The nut on mine goes all the way to the housing so presumably something is not right with the parts!

Or not fitted correctly you will need to make sure the pipe is pushed well home into the pump before tightening the union and to seal the olive against the pipe.
