Mr.T
Hi there. Does anybody know how to fit the check strap. Have purchased from Rimmers to replace missing ones. Looked at door and post but unsure how it goes. Pictures would be helpful as doesn't look right to me
johny
Perhaps the free to download Vitesse manual (same doors) at vitessesteve.co.uk would be useful...
Colin Lindsay
There are two types; originals were very slightly curved, only slightly and not as much as the Spitfire versions, but many modern replacements are straight. With the door trim removed, feed them through the door from inside so that the arm protrudes, don't try to push them to lock in place as it requires a lot of force, then close the door over until the hole in the arm lines up with the holes in the bracket on the bulkhead, and drop the pin down through. I think(!) the curve goes so that the bend is towards the car and the hole for the pin is towards the outside, so that it lines up as the door opens. I nipped out and checked mine, the white ones are towards the outside and the red 1200 is towards the inside... great. Once you open the door the increased force will click them into place.
Pete Lewis
should look like this
Colin Lindsay
Original curved Stanpart version left, straight modern replacement right. Note how much thicker the original 'bump stop' was; older material and not so advanced as the modern replacement.
