steveo
Evening all, doing the bodywork on my 68 13/60, I have a good second hand rear valance that has a light stone chip finish, looks to be original, the one on the car has so much paint on it I have no idea what is was back in the day! Anybody know if it left the factory with stone chip or smooth finish ? Thanks in advance for any information in advance, Cheers, Steveo.
Colin Lindsay
I think they were all smooth, no stonechip or other rust treatment at all. I doubt if Triumph would have gone to that extra expense.
johny
What ever they had originally I recommend stone chip as otherwise they seem to start rusting pretty quickly...
jdaley
What is stonechip please?
johny
Like a thick coloured paint that is more flexible and resistant to chipping by impacts from stones. It has a slightly rippled finish so is only suitable for more out of the way places on the car such as valances, chassis and undersides where is usually applied during the build. It looks better than undersealer which is an alternative but is usually applied later and covers everything... Edited May 9 by johny
steveo
Think I will be doing the bottom 2 inch's in stone chip to try & save it, not much point trying to keep it original as it now has a Vitesse front end & the rest of the car has had so many upgrades & bits changed over the years its never going to be one for the purist ! Cheers, Steveo. Edited May 9 by steveo
