Sandy Gibson
Hi folks The front wing on my Mk111 has got a bit distorted over the years. Probably by using the latch for lifting. I’m going to be repainting the wing this summer and want to get it straightened out. Problem is when I push it out it just pops back to the distorted shape again. I need to reinforce the inside of the wing to strengthen it and I am wondering if anyone has got any ideas/ drawings of panels that they have made to accomplish this? I guess I am not the first person to have this issue! Many thanks as always for any suggestions Sandy
Mark B
Had a similar problem with a very poor quality Vitesse rear wing. Think it's referred to by some as 'tin canning' the metal has stretched and has got nowhere to go. A skilled panel beater could probably shrink the area using various techniques, some youtube videos on shrinking body panels, but definitely a skilled job, or lots of practice needed. Sandy Gibson
Mark Thanks for that. I’ll have a look at the various techniques and then decide. Skilled panel beater I am not, but given that the wing is going to be resprayed anyway I was thinking of cutting through the centre of the distorted are to release the stress then spot welding to the correct profile and reinforcing the rear.. Thanks Sandy
