jdaley
Just curious about the economics of purchasing a pre wired looms or fiddling around by making your own? I have all the tools and parts, but it has often been cause for wonder.
SpitfireGeorge
I got one about 18 mths ago that was supposedly identical to my existing. It wasn't and I have a few unattached wires as a result. Everything works though so alls well that ends well.
Keith Nock
I Got one from the club shop for my Gt6 a few year ago no problem with it what so ever and cheaper than buying all the cables and connectors needed
Colin Lindsay
If you want one ready made, they're good. Sometimes as George says you'll get additional cables for things that maybe some models have, but not all, but better having too many than too few. Some companies will offer braiding rather than tape coverings if you want the authentic look, but you get what you pay for. You can always make your own; I've made part looms before now and as long as you have something to follow or refer to, or a good memory, it's straightforward and open to all kinds of modification to suit your own needs. Eric Smith
When I purchased my Standard 8, the entire loom had been ripped out and was gone forever, I found out the guy who owned the car before me had started the restoration by gutting the car, and then purchased a universal loom from America. He sold me the car before he started work on the inside, so the loom was still in its packet. After the loom was fitted everything worked fine, the loom was well engineered and had only a few wires extra, back then a friend who was a mechanic and auto electrician installed the loom, he just worked his way around the car and everything worked first time, we even made the car negative earth - all went well. The only issue with the loom was the wiring colours, I think they were all different to ours, but no issues. Eric
Roger
Sorry for slight thread drift, but the wiring loom in my Vitesse is a complete mess since PO made a lot of modifications / repairs and he used RED cables 100%. Regardless of where they went. It's a terrible bodge and I would like to go back to wires with the same color as original in order to "align the map with the reality", and repair some things at the same time. The only source for wires in original colors seems to be Holden https://www.holden.co.uk/search/wire I tried to order wires from Holden but they want to charge me £80 for shipping. For a few meters of wire! Ok, it is indeed a long way to The Åland Island, but 80 pounds is rediculous. Can anyone suggest another supplier of wires in original colors? I have googled but without success. A new wiring loom for my Vitesse is 343 € from Rimmers, too expensive and I would have to modify it anyway given my alternator, electric petrol pump etc so not an option. Thanks in advance, Roger. Paul H
Also found this cable useful for short lengths for accessories. just strip out and better than red and very cost effective https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/P00681.html? Paul
Roger
Thanks! Autosparks seems to have a wide range, I will try to order from them. I searched for "wire", I did not know that "cable" was more common term in English. My lingual handicap.
