Pete Lewis
you must check the short fuel hose that connects the tank suction pipe to the fuel supply line in the boot. this short hose is up above the tank and not in sight it with age goes hard and the clips will be loose so the pump sucks air. there is no head of fuel so often no smell . it will allow to suck air but leak little fuel . a quick check will soon check this gremlin out, its the cause of ,many fueling problems with H and V variants fuel tank supply lines cheap fix works wonders . Colin Lindsay
Quite an outdated piece of equipment; a loop of rubber hose. Some kind of right-angle take-off would be much better and easier to attach the hose to, what's the modern alternative?
johny
A pump in the tank seems to be the way to avoid these issues nowadays....
Peter Truman
I gave up with the top hose and went for a drowned suction to the pump having a new original Triumph Herald/Vitesse tank I removed the drain plug and put a brass plug in it’s place with a pipe soldered thought it drawing from the same depth in the tank as the original top arrangement. Pete Lewis
heck its only 6" of hose its not rocket science , just needs to be fixed fully and its lasted 50 years as a design its always check the simples before you re invent the wheel Pete
johny
Yes Pete but access on a Vitesse/Herald makes it about as hard as the bloomin steering coupling to keep an eye on😤
Steve P
Mine has a Facet pump in the boot so no issues with starvation But, the pickup flops around like throwing a banana up the high street as the olive or whatever is supposed to be in there has gone walkabout. Haven`t bothered to sort it yet as I don`t want to take the tank out. Steve
johny
Doesnt it stink the boot out Steve?
Pete Lewis
yes you have to remove the tank to get the length of dip tube out ,a normal pipe olive will work or make a rubber one from a slice of fuel hose if you still have the reserve lever just tighten the sleeve nut enough to allow rotation , pete
