Kiwi OJ
Hi, I've just joined this forum, but I've had my GT6 for almost 30 years! I put it in storage when I moved from New Zealand to the UK in 1999 - half restored. Over the years some bits went missing, and I really couldn't summon the courage to lift the tarpaulin until just before COVID. Now I've been quietly fixing her up bit by bit, and when a friend finds time to help me with the welding she can go back on the road!
Iain T
Welcome to the Forum. Lots of help here. Does the car run? Iain
Kiwi OJ
Hi Iain, Yes, she runs well (after new ignition & fuel systems). By now I've got the clutch & brakes sorted as well. Just some (lots) welding, and then I have all the bits of trim & interior (apart from carpets...) Was thinking of factory Emerald Green paint; or something a bit lighter. Josef
Welcome aboard! What’s the car’s story? Is she a CKD? I didn’t think (m)any GT6es made it down Aus/NZ way?
Peter Truman
NZ and Aus had their own assemblers, no GT6's were assembled in Aus they were personnel imports, and only Spit Mk1,2 &3 were assembled later ones were personnel imports, as were Herald 13/60's. All models of the big saloons were CKD assembled, Mk1, and all mk2's

Probably not original but I like the green with a tan interior. I think the lighter interiors with particularly a light colour headlining make it appear bigger inside. My Vitesse has a tan interior. For my modern car my first question is can I have a light interior! Good luck with the welding, have a fire extinguisher and blanket to hand..... That is a nice combination; I'm being pursued by a Herald owner at present who is painting his Herald a sort of Forest Green and wants my tan interior for it. I agree it'll look better than black, which is why he's not getting it.
Iain T
Or red and tan especially if it's an Alfa or better still a Ferrari 🏎️ Iain

Kiwi OJ
My first Jaguar was dark red with a beige interior, and I think that's a lovely combination 🙂 However, a red sports car is a bit obvious, and I've always liked green ones at shows. All my vinyl interior bits are black, plus 2nd hand Spit seats, but I was thinking of red carpet to give it a lift. And, yes CKD as far as I know. The plant was in Nelson and did various British makes. Their Jags are reckoned to be better built than the Coventry ones!
ahebron
Hi Kiwi OJ. Welcome to another NZ based member, where are you based? I am not aware of NZ assembled GT6 but they might havevslipped a few through like they did with a couple of Vitesse. Prefix on chassis number should be 3 if it was NZ assembled. There are over 100 GT6 registered in NZ https://www.carjam.co.nz/nz-fleet/?q=gt6&_ob=count+desc&make=TRIUMPH

I wouldn't have bought red, or silver, but green just stood out to me, hence the impulse buy of this 28 year old thingy... sadly not a tan interior though. I do reckon the Herald is more fun to drive, though.
Kiwi OJ
Hi ahebron, I'm on Banks Peninsula. No prefix on the commission number, so an import after all I guess. Thanks for that, it might help if our local WoF tester queries the "Made in Coventry" on the plate 😉 Colin, that green car appears to be German: I'm not sure if you're supposed to have fun driving it 😉

I want a sticker for it that says "my other car is a Herald".
Kiwi OJ
Nice! Do people these days still know what a Herald is? Used to be the stylish small saloon option in NZ.

Funny you should mention that, I went to a show on Friday last and parked up at the roadside, no-one came near the Herald. Loads of plastic fantastics with their bean tin exhausts backfiring along the route, loads of tractors, Ford Sierras and Escorts galore with crowds round them but I sat in a front garden just behind the Herald and it never got one second glance. Just not the 'right' show for it! If no-one wants them, then great - more for me!
