Sills

Recommended Posts

Those sills are structural to the body tub.   Before you cut them out, brace the door opening, and across the B-posts, with some one inch tube. Triangulate it to be perfect!.

In addition to the inner and outer sills, you will also need the center strengthener (806638/9) that fits between the inner and outer sills.

Depending on how rotted things are, you may also need a new floor edge, or at least some steel to fabricate a new edge.

You may also need the filler that goes in the door opening at the back of the A post (206288/9), and the rear extension (RL1263/4).

Expect to find some corrosion you didnt expect and plan to buy additional repair panels as appropriate.

Ditto above but perhaps to add front sill end closing panels (706422/3): Depends on the extent of the corrosion, but quite a possibility.

During disassembly it may be advantageous to pay particular heed to the relationship between the floor pan, inner sill, sill stiffener and outer sill at the lower edge as below.

Just started exactly the same. ‘72 MkIV 1500. Inner sills are serviceable with a fair bit of welding but replacing strengtheners, outer sills, end caps and ‘A’ post filler panels. If you want I can send over the ref nos. Checked prices and Fitchett’s appear to be the cheapest. Best. Bruce.

If you’re a club member, buy panels via the club shop. They’re shipped direct from Fitchetts but there’s extra member discount!
