martyn wright
Hi All! I purchased a set of new carpets for my Vitesse a few years ago(5)(From Don Hoods) ! I have laid them out inside the car, but along the Door Sills they have no finishing leather stitching and are extra long! I assume I need to trim off the excess to be able to use the Alloy Finishing Strips? Has anyone had this problem? as i thought they where Fitted! Colin Lindsay
They're probably made longer so as to be adjustable for each individual car. My Herald estate carpets are the same. Just make sure you fit them correctly at the centre tunnel and under the seats, start at the centre and work outwards so as they lie as they should, then you can trim off the excess, because obviously if you don't get them flush to the floors and body profile then as they settle they'll pull inwards and leave a gap at the outer edges. That would be amazingly obvious on my white Estate with black carpets! I fitted the seatbelt brackets and seat bolts / runners as I moved outwards to hold things in place and I think I also used some glue on the outer edges, but I'd rather have them too long and so sagging into the floor pans than pulled too tight and tearing. Pete Lewis
if they afelt and moulded then the have the contours to fit around the variety of obstacles fitted is a bit of a wild assumption take your time as |Colin says let them settle before you trim anything in the end you will end up the "fitter" in the Fitted category Ha!! Eric Smith
Hi - just a thought and I hope this helps a little. When I tried to fit the new carpets into my Standard 8 they were all over the place and still are but they are now not as bad as the would have been. At the time I had at home one of those steamers you use for cleaning with all sorts of attachments, I remembered that people use steam to soften fabrics and importantly carpeting, so I let the steamer have a go and it helped me no end - so beg, borrow or hire a steamer, get the steamer going and as Colin says start along the centre line and work towards the doors on one side, then do the other side but don’t do any cutting till you are 100 sure and ready. I cocked up a little by cutting before I was ready, luckily it was not a problem. Good luck, I also suggest having with you biscuits, coffee, cake, sweets etc. Eric

martyn wright
Well! I have almost finished fitting the Carpets, As it was! SUNNY! out on my drive I laid them out inside the car as they should, and left them out in the sun over a three day period (Yes! 3 days of sun) to let them take mould then cut and glued them and they have turned out really nice and tightly fitted! I would like to point out that the Diagram that came with the Carpets looked Nothing Like the Carpet Shapes that I had??
