Brake calipers

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Just received a pair of recon brake calipers.  I have noticed the pistons are stepped., not as original.  Is this right?

Not seen this before.

Supplied by a very reputable supplier.

Please see picture

Havent see that before but it does exactly the same thing as the shim that you usually fit with the pad. By putting pressure unequally the pad shouldnt vibrate and squeal and with those pistons I wouldnt have thought you now need to use shims...

this ws common on lockheed calipers of the 70s  you dont need shims  the relief  needs to be on the

leading edge, problem was the piston can rotate in time and the relief can be wrongly placed and then you get squeals

Thank you all, you have just answered a question for me. I gave a set of recon 2000 Lockheed calipers to a mate, he gave them back saying the pistons were damaged.

Now I know who was right, and it wasn’t him!

it is a much better idea to give the pads a leading ,

until the piston rotates , and the lead in is upside down

dont use grips to turn them as easy to score the seal surface

common on Hunters and the like of the era
