martyn wright
Hi All! I'm fitting a mp3 radio and it has a yellow wire which I believe goes to the neg on the battery? Does this need a inline fuse? I have connected the Black to the body and the red states Ignition! Is this number 4 on ign switch? Cheers martyn
68vitesse
I would assume the yellow wire is to provide power to the unit, to keep settings when ignition is of, doesn't the unit come with a wiring diagram?. As to the number 4 connection on my 2L Vitesse it is the radio supply, also becomes live when ignition key is turned anticlockwise. Recent post about radio live feed for settings draining battery. Regards Paul.
johny
Yes diagrams would be good as you can easily damage modern electronics or your cars wiring....
Colin Lindsay
Ignore the extras at first; just red to power and black to earth. On your ignition switch you may (should?) have a spare single terminal, on Heralds the key turns to right, but you can also go back one click with the engine off and this provides power without turning the ignition on. A good place to take power for the red from without disturbing anything else. It's the only single terminal on the rear of the ignition switch. If you need to keep a permanent live to prevent losing the stations when turned off (yellow cable?) you can either piggyback off the large cable on the ignition switch, the thick blue / brown cable, by just attaching a spade terminal to the spare lug on that ignition switch terminal - it's a double terminal and this is permanently live to allow power when the key is turned - or else string a long cable from the battery. On either, fit a good inline fuse, 5 amp would do, but for anything permanently live on a Herald or Vitesse it's a must.
martyn wright
Ha! Ha! Just got of my arse after connecting the (yellow) to the Battery Terminal, (red) to no4(empty) on the Ignition and (gray/black) to the body and low and behold a Miracle! Everything works as it should! Yay!
