rulloyd
For my GT6, I had my Speedo and taco repaired. When I took them out, I don’t remember there being a gasket between the dash and the gauges, but when they came back, the Speedo (only the Speedo) was provided with quite a thick square profile rubber ring around the body (similar to an oil filter seal). Made me think that maybe there should be an o ring of some sort (my small gauges do have a rubber o ring) although I don’t see anything in the parts manual. So I bought a set of gauge o rings from Paddocks. They are quite thin round profile rings. Then I took the bezel off both gauges (to clean off finger prints under the glass :-() and in one of them, found a remarkably similar ring under the glass! Only on the Speedo. Makes me think the paddocks rings are intended to go under the glass! Question, are the Speedo and taco supposed to have an o ring? If so I’m thinking that the small o ring profile is far better than the square one which I imagine will make the gauges stick out (and I don’t have one for the taco!). Thanks for any advice, pics below. One of these or nothing? Rich
johny
You risk cracking the varnish if installing without seals which also help to stop the instrument rotating in the facia. The square profile is the correct one but now most kits come with much easier to source o rings although the risk is these can be squeezed between the instrument and facia hole so making it sit wonky. Inside the instruments there should be a soft seal for the glass to bezel and then on the speedo and tacho another o ring for glass to casing so check that the glass is held firmly on these when assembled.... 1
