Rob29
Hi all I was wondering if anyone could help I have a triumph herald 1967 with drum brakes on the front I would like to change them to discs what parts would I need to do this please any help would be grateful as I’m very new to a herald
Josef
https://canleyclassics.com/?catalogue=triumph-herald-1200&diagram=triumph-herald-1200-convert-your-early-herald-to-front-discs This should list everything you need. The supplier, Canley Classics, are usually one of the best bets for supplying the right parts. So while I’ve not done this job myself, I’d be pretty confident in the info on the linked page. The biggest cost there is the mounting brackets, you might be able to find these second hand, but perhaps not very quickly as it’s understandably a popular conversion so they don’t show up often! DanMi
probably easier to just get a set of suspension uprights hubs callipers etc, from a herald 1360 or any spitfire rather than going down the mounting bracket route to your existing uprights
Colin Lindsay
Agreed Dan, I reckon the easiest route these days is just to buy the entire front uprights with all hubs attached - it saves mixing and matching early and late components unless you're worried about originality for a period conversion. My early 1200 has been built up as if converted but things like the rubber seals on the caliper adaptor were hard to find in the proper square profile. It will also ensure you have the correct hubs to match the type of caliper and other small details like that which you only discover on assembly. (apologies to Rob for the earlier short post, the booklet has been on my computer for years but I was too rushed to add any text this morning!) I'd be refurbishing a lot of it anyway, so as long as the metal is all there it's worth a punt.
