martyn wright Posted October 4 Report Posted October 4 (edited) Hi! Thought I would ask you for your comments on portable car security items when parking up, when out? No fitted Alarm Systems but handbrake Clams etc and what's on the market and what's is recommended? Cheers All! Edited October 5 by martyn wright
Pete Lewis Posted October 4 Report Posted October 4 (edited) i would guess a steering wheel clamp is simplest and obvious or just remove the rotor arm but dont forget to put it back Pete Edited October 4 by Pete Lewis
martyn wright Posted October 4 Author Report Posted October 4 Thanks Pete! I would loose the rota arm lol 😆
Colin Lindsay Posted October 4 Report Posted October 4 With a convertible, a razor blade or even hand-strength will get you in. Bonnet locks protect the engine area and so are good, but the only thing you can really do for the interior is get something that makes lots of noise if disturbed that may alert yourself, or someone else in the vicinity. The problem is, that if you go for a hidden deterrent, it stops the car being taken only AFTER they've tried. A good visible deterrent, even a fake flashing LED visible from outside, often puts thieves off before they make the attempt. Once inside if they can't steal, they'll wreck. Those immobilisers that clamp over the handbrake and gearstick are rubbish, I've removed them from my own cars in seconds after losing the key. The huge steering wheel Disklok also works provided you don't lose the key, because they can't be cut off like the Autolock across-the-wheel bar thingies or the old telescopic Krooklocks from wheel to pedal. Battery powered drills and anglegrinders make things easier for criminals these days! I have a pedal clamp that locks both brake and clutch pedals together but never used it.
