Jon J 1250 Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 (edited) Hi, I've run into a bit of an issue. Stripping down car (Herald 12/50) for a repaint, it has the earlier wiper wheel boxes, I removed one of them no issues, the ring nut came undone no problem, unfortunately, when applying the same force on the other side, the whole spindle started rotating, making it impossible to remove the ring nut. I could Dremel cut through the nut, but is there any other trick for removing it. Also once it is off, can it be repaired? (I am thinking some kind of Loctite adhesive) Kind Regards Jon Edited October 15 by Jon J 1250
Pete Lewis Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 anything here that might be a replacement Wiper System Components | Stafford Vehicle Components (s-v-c.co.uk) Pete 1
Colin Lindsay Posted October 15 Report Posted October 15 To achieve some kind of leverage unscrew the rear of the wiper wheelbox, insert a long thin screwdriver, replace the rear so it's clamped, and then try to undo the chrome nut again with the screwdriver wedged against the bodywork; it means you don't need to continually hold the wheelbox in place. I think both chrome nut and wiper wheelboxes are available new (the nuts certainly are) so you can cut the nut off, but if you find the threads have worn off the wheelbox over time you'll never get the nut to hold it in place anyway.
Jon J 1250 Posted October 17 Author Report Posted October 17 I got the wheelbox off, in the end. I decided to drill the edge of the nut (which is only chromed brass), and broke it with a set of circlip pliers. Thread seems fine so I'll buy another nut and somehow glue the spindle housing back to the body. Thanks all Jon
Pete Lewis Posted October 17 Report Posted October 17 dont forget these wheel box holes are open to the rain so good seal is essential Pete 1

I not there were little circular seals around the spindles too. They were rectangular in section, but have broken up with age. I'll have to see if I can find replacements...
