pugwash Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 Hi people, another question. My car has the map light, I believe it is the Wipac Elbo-Lite, which appears to be missing two pieces to make it work. According to the pictures I have seen including on this forum mine is missing the black plastic endpiece with the lens along with the internal spring. Everything else is there and in great condition. I have looked all over the web to find the parts without success, a replacement entire light can be had but I don't need it all. Does anyone have an idea where I should look? I know the light is not vital to life but seeing as the rest of the car is in good original condition I would like to repair the maplight too. It will probably not be needed for map reading as her ladyship is rather challenged in that department although it would come in handy when she rummages through her handbag. Thank you.

johny Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 Like a lot of original classic accessories they command good prices second hand these days so all you might be able to do is wait for a knackered one to come up cheap and hopefully build a good one out of the two... 1
dougbgt6 Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 (edited) Cheapest on Ebay around £30, but Paddock's sell them new for £30! This is what's inside. spring and bulb no problem, bezel, well there's the problem. I'd be inclined to cobble something together, maybe with an LED bulb. Doug Edited November 6 by dougbgt6 1
Colin Lindsay Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 The Elbo-light is different to the usual Spitfire version, it may have been classic Minis or MGs had it? Ours is the hinged reading light, Part number UKC3946 and as Pugwash has already found it seems there are quite a few online sellers of new items, both new and second-hand, of both versions. I'd doubt if the parts could be sourced separately, but it may be worth a try. 1

I found out too that they can be bought as anything from seriously grotty to NOS for £ 30 - 35. I have the bulb, when I came to fit it I noticed the retaining bits were missing. My guess is the bulb blew and the person who took it apart lost the missing parts while looking for a new bulb. The cobbling bit would be possible if the spring was not needed to push the bulb onto the contact. It was from an old thread on this forum that I found out what was missing.

Ours is the hinged reading light, Part number UKC3946 I did notice a couple of versions while looking for parts but let's play spot the difference. On the left the UKC3946 and on the right the Elbo-Lite: The only difference I can see is the base fitting but even there Triumph had two different versions - one is considerably more expensive than the other. Like I said there seems to be no-one with the parts of the lamp for sale, what surprises me is that having been a fairly common fitting there are none in bits. Oh well I shall save the search on eBay and wait, and wait, and wait. Thanks for the kind assistance guys, it is much appreciated.
