Hi!  Now that I have finished my Vitesse 1600/6?  I have found a Blue Aclaim with very good bodywork! And has done just 45000mls   It has been in a garage under covers for 10 yrs.  The Chap said 6? yes but on checking DVLA 10yrs.  Anyone know how the parts situation is with the Honda Engine etc

Hi Martyn, I have run Acclaims for years and they are great cars but spares are difficult to find other than service items etc.

I will message you

Hi Martyn

If I remember correctly, the Acclaim was based almost entirely on the 1970’s Honda Ballade saloon - would it worth looking towards the Honda restoration community for help? If you talk to them nicely, they might be the people with links to UK spares and on into the Japanese, European and US spares chains.

With Triumph948 saying UK spares for the Acclaim are thin on the ground, I think you are going to have some lateral thinking to find out where the spare parts might be lurking?

It would be worth doing some research to see if the Ballade sold well - I remember both cars - but did the Honda Ballade sell more than the Acclaim or was it the other way round.

Whatever the outcome, you might find there is a shed full of parts somewhere?

My aunt had a Aclaim CD back in the 80,s, I think it was only 6 months old when she got it got it, it was an insurance write off due to paintwork damage.

Every panel was keyed down to the metal so my uncle gave it a full respray back in its metallic red, I was only about 10 years old and was amazed as it was the first car I had ever seen with electric windows, I think it even had central locking & leccy mirrors.

My dad had a Vauxhall Viva at the time so the Triumph was like a Rolls Royce to us, always wanted one but they are so rare will probably never own one, was a blue base model on Gumtree local to me a few months back but it was in poor condition & had a mot history of lots of rust.

Good luck with it, nice to see one back on the road, very underrated car in my opinion ( even if it is really a Honda ) Civic type R engine swop ?

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks for your input!  I really still haven't made my mind up yet as my brother told me last night, that he might be getting rid of his mgbgt and asked if I was interested lol 🙃

I had the 'successor', the Honda-engined Rover 213s. A superb car, engine and gearbox were second to none, and I clocked up 177,000 miles over seven years. It was an excellent combination of British style and comfort and Japanese engineering. Eventually the body fell apart around the engine and I sold it (for £540). I replaced it with a Maestro!

Hi Colin!  When I was a manager of a garage,I  had a Maestro, a 1600 model!  Good little car!

I had the only Triumph-badged Maestro in the world. Mine was a 1990 'Rover' Maestro but they never actually badged those - all it said was 'Maestro' across the rear hatch edge. I put a Triumph Laurel-leaf badge on the bonnet and Triumph lettering on the other side of the rear hatch, and converted it to 5-speed gearbox and other upgrades. I took great delight in telling people that, as they knew the MG Maestro, you could ask for any of the old variations - Triumph, Wolseley, Riley etc and each came with different upgrades or specifications. It's amazing how many people agreed with me as if they knew that already.

Ha! I went over the first few lines a few times 😆  I had a nice navy blue one! 63,000!  There was a Vandan plas in a brown/gold metallic on ebay  last month?

By an amazing coincidence I found a photo just now and wasn't even looking for one! It was driving a cheap workhorse like this that left me the spare cash to buy more Triumphs.
