68vitesse
Good Morning. Has anyone had experience of getting a standard manifold refaced?, straight edge shows ends forward of the middle. I do not want to go to all the trouble of fitting a stainless steel manifold, with all the nock on changes, unless forced. Regards Paul
Pete Lewis
i would have thought a local engineering co with a Mill cold mount it off the clamp faces and run a skim over the faces could you get a double joint to make up the shallow the centre section ?? just a thought is this a mk1 or Mk2 engine , there must be some reasonable used about as an alternative tubulars will give you a whole new list of hic ups Pete
68vitesse
It's a Mk1, I have a couple of spares and they all have a similar gap in the middle. As to a tubular manifold I bought a 6 to 3 to 1 in a fit of enthusiasm at a show some years ago and trial fitted it to the engine of my long term Vitesse project. Tight on the water return pipe, small clearances on starter, chassis and sump flange. Then you need an exhaust to fit the collector, thought about a Mk2 as bigger diameter pipe, this is all before you think about needles for the carbs and exhaust wrap. How much have I missed?. Car runs fine on standard manifold but have had at least a couple break, weld and brazing repairs are a nightmare of their own. Pete Lewis
My Vit6 had a 631 pretty tight between collectors and steering coulmn is common then the 3 to1 takes some mastering and mods to get it to seal. tubes are much noisier than cast, lots of detonation clatter you dont getbwitha cast she ran for hours with a plastic fan and never needed any wrap. Sounds like look for a good used, if there is such a thing dont go mk2 as the porting and fixings is totally different , unless you modify and fit a mk2 head to the mk1 block, which needs 7/16 studs and carefull check of the water ports pete
