Darren Groves
I know this topic comes up on a regular basis, but couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for. I know 2.5 - 3psi is the ideal operating pressure for carbs, so do the Facet 1.5 - 4psi pumps overpower twin SU's and therefore need a regulator or are they OK without? https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/272234064582 Or https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/181206455641
Guest
Darren. A lot of classic car owners I know, who have either SU's, Strom's and especially Weber carbs are now using the Sytec regulator; such as Ebay 360872896996 I do not think you can depend on the pump delivering the correct amount of fuel at a certain pressure without incurring the risk of over-fuelling, but with the regulator you can make the pump do as you wish and not the other way around !! Without a doubt using a regulator will give you the delivery you want for your particular car rather than just a broad sweep. If I had an electric pump on either the Vitesse (Strom's) or the Alpine (Weber) I would most certainly be investing in a Sytec. It is worth mentioning that if you do go for the electric pump option, ensure you install a cut-off switch to cut the pump dead should any problems occur; either as a fault or vehicle damage. Best wishes. Richard.
