jimmyrjm
Hi, I'm fitting my petrol tank in my Triumph GT6 MK3 that I am restoring and I cant seem to work out two of the fixings that hold the petrol tank in place. I have attached pictures below. I also wanted to know if the bracket above the petrol tank for the wooden cover (see pics) bolts straight onto the placement on the body or is there meant to be something before. Thanks, Jim. dougbgt6
Here are some diagrams from Canley Classics, don't know if they make it clearer or more mystifying! http://www.canleyclassics.com/triumph-gt6-mkiii-petrol-system-all-markets-except-usa http://www.canleyclassics.com/triumph-gt6-mkiii-luggage-floor-details

I did replace both wheel arches when I was on the bodywork phase of my GT6, so maybe one of the petrol tank fitting holes attaches to the wheel arch?? I hadn't seen the 2nd diagram you posted which is useful, thanks. Kind regards, Jim.
dougbgt6
There is a bracket welded to the wheel arch that the tank sits on Glad I looked as I don't appear to have the tank support rod! (715930) It should be on the bottom right of the tank looking in the hatch. Another job for the list!

John Bonnett
The tank has three fixings; one on the spring tunnel, a second on a bracket welded to the inner wing (as is mentioned above) and the third is a length of round bar, one end flattened and drilled which bolts to the upstand on the valence and threaded at the top to engage with the hole in the flange on the tank. It does look as if you are missing at least one mounting. I can let you have pictures of mine if it would help but not immediately. rgds John
dougbgt6
John, I seem to be missing the round bar, I can't think when that went awol, presumably when I had some body work done 20 years ago. But I can't think why it would have been removed. Nobody sells it any more so I may have to manufacture something.

Not a problem and I'll be pleased to do it. John

Doug what goes around comes around and there may a time when you can help me. I should have the material in stock so the only cost will be a couple of bob for the postage. I'll drop you a PM when I get home in the middle of June and we can have a chat then. Kind regards John
John Bonnett
John, that is really very good of you. I'll take you up on it, ONLY if you'll let me make some recompense, beer vouchers perhaps? Hi Doug, all done. Just let me know where you would like it sent. I hope it will be okay. The original is about 10mm diameter but I made yours from 1/2" stainless steel tube which I had in stock. Best regards John
