Dave pb
Hi I have original 13" steel wheels and need some new tyres. I have seen recommendations elsewhere that 175/70's may be preferable to 155/70s. Anybody got any thoughts/recommendations? juppy
The standard fitment is 155 x 13 these will fit the standard 4.5 J rims. However if the 5.5 J Dunlop pattern Formula Ford steel rims are fitted then 175/70 x13 will fit and there will be no discernable difference in rolling radius and gearing. AidanT
The table on this link may help http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/charts/tire-width-for-a-wheel-rim-size-chart I know it starts at 5" but you can extrapolate back the numbers, so the MAX on 4.5J's would be 175's. I used to have 165 tyres on 4.5J's which were fine, but have changed to 175 on 5J (inch) width Alloys, again fine don't rub and my speedometer is more accurate! Clive
155/80 would be standard size these days, 175/70 look a nice bit fatter and more aggressive. personal choice really, the way they stick to the rad is more to do with the quality of tyre than width. Dave pb
Thanks everybody. I reckon the 175s will do me. Cheers Dave ====
