It really isn't to show off the garage but it certainly helps having somewhere proper to work. Well you should, it's worth showing off! That's a really really nice place to work. The car is going to look good too!

DrKai
Quick update. Body dipped Gearbox mount made and engine trial fitted Predicable issue with manifold clearance. Made some enquires looking at 4k plus for the kind of custom manifold I wanted soon needed a plan b. Bought a 3d printer printed up some sections corresponding to sections of radius and drew a collector. Once all printed out will make up a manifold on car Lego style then convert to steel VID-20190219-WA0002.mp4 VID-20190219-WA0002.mp4 VID-20190224-WA0005.mp4

thescrapman
4K for a bespoke manifold? Are you having it diamond encrusted? Not even GT used to charge that! Should be max of £1200 as that is about what a mate paid for a proper 6-3-1 made to measure for his car with engine moved back 6 inches.
DrKai
That was the 'from' price :o. Interesting, do you know who did it? Although I'm quite enjoying the challenge now

DrKai
One side starting to look like a car again. VID-20190919-WA0020.mp4 Now need to sort seat mounting before custom floor plan. I've got some corbeau seats designed for an Elise. As these seem to be the narrowest I can find with a good amount of support without resorting to kirkeys. I'm not small. They have an interesting hump on the bottom which to get the seat low enough will need a relief in the floor. Rough outline as shown here No great issue. The main issue is mounting. I wanted to do the tried and tested tubes between the tunnel and sill with seat mounted to this. However there just isn't room with the seat as low as it needs to go. My plan therefore is to make mounts which will weld to the sill and lower part of the tunnel and corresponding bracket for the seat as shown roughly below. Any thoughts? Criticism welcomed

DrKai
Shiny brakes bought- need to do something about the colour Cvs rebuilt and painted along with some other bits. I'm using por-15 Rebuilt diff with quaife lsd courtesy of Mike papworth Chassis blasted. Front end chopped off back to where I wanted to mount the radiator. Straightened out the crash damage. Radiator is a 205gti job. I cut part of the bottom mount off and tapped the remaining alloy block. Then made some brackets out of tube. I'll make some antivibration infill for them. So the rad bolts in from the bottom. Will put a support strut to the top from the shock towers. Also made some brackets up for the oil cooler. The front end will be worked out and rivnutted on to the chassis down the line. Replaced the rear wishbone bracket with adjustables. 1

DrKai
After much, much swearing and more disassembly/ reassembly cycles than I'd like to admit I finally got the end-float right and got the brakes rebuilt
Adrian Cooper
That all looks fabulous, well done. One thing though, I have a feeling that the rear brake shoe is upside down and that it should have its hand brake slot at the bottom. dougbgt6
I think the front one?!! I remember it by the brake material on the front shoe high, the back shoe (the leading shoe!) low. Doug

As confirmed in Doug's post the rear shoe should have the liner towards the top, higher than the front shoe, so the handbrake notch will be diagonally opposite. dougbgt6
Dr K, I only know this because I’ve done it wrong! 😆 I hate drum brakes. I think there’s a vast warehouse somewhere that’s been dramatically over stocked with them. They have to be got rid off on unsuspecting punters. DrKai
Built up the coilovers. Big gap at full extension so fitted helper springs. Made a jig from the old wishbones and fabbed up a new one (other to be done). Used a 1/2 unf bushed end which takes the original diameter bushes, threaded tube insert, CDS and 2mm sheet for gussets. Would've been hell without a tube notcher. Was pretty faff-filled with. Bodywork continues
