Hello All

            Well its all off!!!

We are committed now?(there some that say I should be!)

The bearing is about as tight as a thingy in a top hat(very very loose)

I took 1.5 hours from start to finish and that included degreasing all tools and parts and boy was there a lot(6/8 pumps every 10mls for 60 mls!)

Hello All

                As Willy Nelson says

On the road again just can,t wait to get on the road again!

Going places that I,ve never been and seen and things I may never see again!

As you can gather Spitty is ready to hit the road again!

Parts arrived about 4.45pm so 5pm start(looking at tracking I think they were put on the wrong van as it said MISPLACED in transit?)Bugger

Finished about 8.30pm but decided to change the wheel studs as not happy with the 3/8 inch nuts ones in the minilites and greased the uj(but forgot to do it while off car!!!!!!)so made more work!

Still not to bad for a silly old bugger who is 72 in August?

But big thanks to Alan and support from the rest of you.

And boy does I fell good now?(but Knackered)

My Son said (fair play most people would've come home on a recovery truck x)

A bit pissed now as 2 bottles of fizz seem to have disappeared?(but don,t you think I have earn,t it?)

Hello Pete

We are here for one more day as we had booked it as we did not know when parts would arrive.

We have booked a 1 night stop and a 2 night stop just 3 more to do?

I will let you know later when we have decided(pin in the map decision!) and the roads that have green marked on them meaning scenic.

Off for a walk around the wall and coffee and tosta

Great stuff Roger and very well done. This has to be an epic story and I totally agree with your son. For sure many of us would have thrown in the towel at the outset. But you didn't and you must feel chuffed to bits with what you've achieved. Full marks too to whoever supplied your bits and for the courier who got them to you.

I do hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday and that it is free of any more unwanted events.

Best wishes

John

Hello All

Well we made it to Ponferrada about 110 mls

There was a change of plan as when we left this morning to was very misty so we did not go over the mountains.

Plus when we stopped after about 30mls I thought we had a problem as there was some brake fluid on the Tyre!(silicon type)

But groveled under the car and and checked all the fittings(all tight and master cylinder still full?)

So wiped all clean and carried on nervously! more checks showed no more fluid(I think I spilt  some on the brake plate when bleeding wheel cylinder as did not have a rubber tube so just let it out onto a cloth)

I seem to have a bit of a clunk when braking forward and back? but am certain I tightened all the nuts up(could be wheel cylinder moving in the back plate? as I used some old shoes sent with drive shaft and are quite worn may need adjusting now settled in?)

I think the problem is we are getting a bit paranoid about noises! bouncing car does not produce and noise only a squeak from spring eye bushes(new with spring)

Also had a bit of engine not running clean under very light load in traffic(town) but it may be the fuel I put in this morning? in my haste and the attendant was all over me like a rash I pointed to the 95 stuff(as used at home) but here been using 98 stuff as I do not know how much E is in them? and I know when E10 is used when she was on carbs it ran badly! so EFI will do the same at the moment are the auto correct from the Lambda sensor is turned off. and I put in 22lts and tank is only 33lts?

Roger

Hello Pete

I am 99.9% sure the trailing shoe is on correct as I had the Memsahib watching!

The cable over taut? I did prize the lever out to get the clevis pin in and they are old shoes a lot thinner than the ones removed covered in grease! so could be that?

As I say we are paranoid!

I have some ear plugs somewhere in the car! that may be the answer?

Hello All

We have moved on from Ponferrada which was a nice town (well the bit around the Castle)

The Castle is well worth a visit and our digs were about 200yds away with under ground parking for Spitty

We are now at a very small village called Tuna (just by Tineo)

We travelled up the CL631 and AS15 and over the Puerto de Leitariegos @ 1525m (5000ft!)

Which was fantastic and scenic but as we came down the other side we were in thick mist(50m) until below 2500ft then ok.

I think Spitty,s baro correction must be close as she did not get rich and at the top on tick over she was about 14.8 to 15.5 (so may be leaning off a bit to much?) but was running quite well(I topped up with good fuel 98 and 20lt so back to low E number)

We are starting to ignore the odd clunk and the paranoia is getting less!

Roger

Hello All

We had a ride out to the coast today(Cudillero) as the weather was a bit misty.(Nice Harbour town )

We only got up to 2500 feet today but some of the views were still good.

Anybody fancy Pulpo(Octopus) or Rack of ribs?

970 miles covered since leaving home!

Mpg overall seems about 40mpg but considering some of the passes are   2nd and  3rd gear  and 20 Mph for miles and very steep not bad?

Spitty still has her clonk but does not seem any worse and only at times?(trying not to worry!) and we have covered 350 miles since the repairs!

She seems better now she has had 2 fill ups of Good stuff(98) E10 C*****p all gone! And I recon it is only £1.20 a litre at most so no dearer than cooking at home!

Off to Espinama tomorrow and into the Picos mountains and we will try and go on the cable car if weather ok and its running.

Roger

Hello All

We have moved on to Espinama via some fantastic roads(will sort out numbers etc when we get home)

The bad part was this silly OLD!!!! man managed to fall over and break the (£350 camera?) still its insured!(and no was not P****d) just rushing across the road to get a photo for you all(so it is your fault?)

Mountain pass of 4000ft  and stunning views (hope I have got some on the tablet thing!)

Here a few from before I broke the Camera!

Had a bit of a moment as found out when we get to just under half a tank of fuel she cuts out on right handers(anti surge baffle fitted to tank does not work!)

Then petrol station in middle of nowhere(Riano)only had 95 C****p so pushed next one did not exist(panic setting in!) climbed to 4000ft and Spitty not happy low HOT fuel but made our way to Potes and only got 20.5lt in tank(so no panic needed only on corners?) but there were a lot.

Still we can laugh NOW(after opening a bottle of vino given to us as we left last digs!)

Roger

Ps last one before falling over!
