Eric990j
Hi all, before I get stripping the insides of the car, is this the best way to check the overdrive wiring as I have something intermittently faulty with the engagement and suspect a wire or connector. Can I do it from underneath?
Pete Lewis
There is an inhibitor switch hidden on top of the gearbox, this stops engagement in 1s 2ndif its a J type the solenoid piston may be sticking or need new O ringsneeds a thin 1" af spanner to remove ittheres is a small 10mm circlip in the sol end, this needs removing to tap out the inner spool valve pistonfor a clean up.You can check the feed with a bulb connected to the solenoid terminalJ types dont have a relay, just the gear knob switch and inhibitor switchwiring down the gearstick is a common failinguse silcon wire it takes the heat betterpete
Eric990j
Thanks Pete , it's the later gearbox so I'll change the wiring. Nice to get confirmation before I start.
