PeterH
3 rail gearbox. Without the special tool shewn in the workshop manual. Does anyone have a dodge as to how to remove the mainshaft circlip 112394 ? I've tried prising with various screwdrivers but you need at least 3 hands (extra small). Guest
Peter. Would sliding a few feeler gauge blades under it help to lift it and slide off ?? Not physically viewed it before so I may well be way off the mark ?? Regards. Richard.
PeterH
That's more or less what I was trying to do with the screwdrivers. The circlip is on a splined shaft and is actually recessed in the end of the gear.
Guest
Peter. Thought I'd pop this Triumph Technical Service Bulletin link on the thread, for the general knowledge of others who may carry out this job at some stage: http://www.triumphsonly.com/pages/technical/1-d-12.htm Regards. PeterH
Thanks Richard. I'll remember that when I come to reassemble the box. Still doesn't help with getting it off. Being recessed in the gear you can't get a lever in behind it as you might if it wasn't.
Pete Lewis
Small screwdriver and 6 pairs of hands , once you lift one end onto the spline you can work around it to remove But word of warning never reuse one of these Always get a new one , or two Simple removal is to chop it with a chisel you dont want to keep it Old ones have a big habit of letting go as they get stretched Theres a few tricks for 3 rail 4 synchro boxes To reassemble and stop the 1st 2nd collet thrusts jumping out assemble the box verticaly Support the end of the mainshaft and lower case over the top , tap the bearing down into the case ( needs extra rent a crowd) Gravity keeps the gear form jumping and the blighters pop out.
