PeterH
(Circlip came off - brute force and ignorance. (yesterday's post)) I can't find anything in the manual about checking the synchro (baulk) rings. There is a figure quoted on internet for MG B of 0.020" clearance when ring pushed hard home onto cone (back of ring to gear face). Presumably a similar figure is OK for our cars? Pete Lewis
yes sounds reasonable,, no gap is well worn out what is critical is the 55deg chamfer on the teeth of the gear dog and sleeve and the ring, must be well defined to make the ring rock over 1/2 tooth out of line to baulk the change till synchronised also the equal load on the sleeve balls and springs any crashing thats chimbled the well defined chamfer will loose synchro effort and crash part way through a change as the rotational forces are overcome from baulking and it lets you engage without synchronising ...more crunching . if you can follow the extract from a rootes manual below most synchro follow similar designs Pete
