PeterH
When I bought the car (Mk3 Spitfire) it came with an original Triumph steel hardtop and no hood or frame. On rebuild I fitted a hood. If I want to fit the hardtop do I need to remove the hood and frame or just release the hood from the rear deck? I think I read somewhere Spitfires were available as only a hardtop - I ought to get the heritiage cert, it might tell me if that's how the car was built. Pete Lewis
on my parts list is seems the hard top was an option or aftermarket kit as it suggests 'you' buy a hood bag Pete
68spitfire
Just take the two bolts out that secure the hood to the rear deck. Put the frame down in its storage position, neatly fold the hood ensuring no creases in the windows (I use a towel where window material touches to stop sticking), Fit a hood bag that includes the two hole eye's. Using the two elasticated straps on the hood-bag loop under the folded hood and onto the hood frame underneath to keep the hood up off of the storage area behind the seats. Fit the Hard Top using side fittings (usually easier to put these in place on the body before the hood bag is in place (as the bag has eyelets for these to go through as well). Bolt the rear deck hard-top bolts through the eyes in the hood bag. Simples!
