madmark Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 Am i right in thinking this is a herald box all works perfectly with over drive. Its was in our 66 spitfire and over drive is operated buy an extra stalk next to indicator stalk
68vitesse Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 Looks like it is a single rail box which I believe was never fitted to a Herald, the letters from the gearbox number will tell you where the case started life. The number should be on the top of the main case. Regards Paul
Pete Lewis Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 having seen a single rail fitted into a herald 13/60 the gear lever spherical is too low and the hole in the herald tunnel blocks stick movement and you need a big hole and leather gaitor to make it work ok, ( this was a £800 professional replacement cock up which left owner with no gaitor or no 4th gear ) wonderful !!! ( maybe you could raise the assy ) Pete
Pete Lewis Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 thats a casting number the gearbox type is 'stamped' on the top of the main case machined face next to the top cover Pete

Pete Lewis Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 Steve, ive only come across this one , ( non OD ) and looked at mounts/ cotton reels and supports to see if they differed , no all pretty much std across the non OD single /3 rail range , maybe the od mount sits things better , the hole and gaitor mod was the only thing to do as the spherical was 2+" below the tunnel so hole was nearly halfway up the stick....crackers! hes sold it now so cant revisit the disaster Pete
Steve P Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 Hi Pete, Never tried it with the cotton reel mounts, just the usual O/D plate type.Weird. I do use Ford gaiters on both my cars though, much neater. Steve
Pete Lewis Posted October 16, 2017 Report Posted October 16, 2017 on the Vit6 I used a shhhh ....... MGB gaitor and chrome ring , again a vote for much neater edit added pic.. crikey .. looks grubby ... its really quite shiney (well it was ) Pete
