Andrew
Herald 13/60 OK Put me out of my misery. Why oh why is there no gasket between the output shaft flange and the mating surface of the differential. I am renewing the output seal but surely oil can weep between the bearing outer race and leak out. Am I missing something. I will of course put some Hylomar on the surface as I have been advised to by a very learned member of the club, but why no gasket from new? Pete Lewis
Its not shown on any parts listing that I can see I have seen these with a paper joint, its often trying to escape with edges showing beyond the hsg. Canley list a diff joint kit diffset1 but cant break it down to whats included Im sure some sealant is desirable , I use loctite 573 /574 for reliable sealing magic stuff Pete Pete
Colin Lindsay
It does... especially if you leave it on the floor, tilted forwards! I was quite miffed when I rebuilt my Herald diff and stored it whilst awaiting refitting, only to find a huge oil leak. I think in everyday use, when it's more or less horizontal, that oil loss should be minimal.
