Any of the Triumphs from that era will do as a donor - large saloons such as the 2000 or smaller such as the Dolomites or Toledos. You'll probably find that postage on the unit will be higher than the cost price.

Rewiring the control box is also very simple, let us know if you need the details.

Yes, the replacing the dynamo with an alternator is very straight forward. There are two item you need one being the mounting bracket that bolts to the block this can be obtained from all the 1300/1500/2000/2500 cars. e.g. Spitfire/Dolomite/ Toledo/Big Saloons. The second is the adjusting bracket/arm and only the 1300/1500, four cylinder, cars will give the correct adjustment. e.g. Spitfire/Dolomite/ Toledo, not the big Saloon. Some of the parts suppliers can supply the bits. However, talk to the people at your local area as they may have the parts on an old engine. As Colin has said the control box needs to be by-passed.

as the charge rate will be higher than the dynamo i would  add/rewire a new heavier gauge wire from the alt to the solenoid /battery link and not use the originals

but to bypass the regulator you join all the big 30amp  lucars together and the two smaller 17amp lucars ,  dispose of the earth .
