AidanT Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 Hi all Replacing just rhe seals on my top ball joints as the old ones were mentioned on the last mot as in need of replacement I did not realise they were fitted with nylocs. Has anyone got a couple I could have please? Oddly on dismantling, there was a very thin now deformed washer on top of the ball joint seal. Is this usual? If so has anyone got a couple of those? Thx Aidan
Guest Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 Aidan. Just to confirm, is 11/16" the socket size or the actual nut ?? Regards. Richard.
AidanT Posted March 10, 2018 Author Report Posted March 10, 2018 Hi Richard That's the socket size Always thought it was the same thing but hey I'm always learning new things From what I can find the tread is 7/16" would that make sense? Aidan
Guest Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 It's probably 5/8" - as a nut is usually next size down. However I have just looked at the Canley website and it appears that a Mk3 Spitfire ball joint takes a 3/8" Nyloc - is that what you have ?? Regards. Richard. .
AidanT Posted March 10, 2018 Author Report Posted March 10, 2018 Hi Richard. Just checked on my list of torque settings and it's a 7/16 thread http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Torque.html Aidan
Pete Lewis Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 rimmers states 7/16unf x 5/8" its a bit unusual to descript the depth of the nut my spare joints are 7/16unf
AidanT Posted March 10, 2018 Author Report Posted March 10, 2018 Got any spare nuts? As a triple check I just tried a 5/16" ( that's the biggest I have) and its a size up on that Aidan
Guest Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 You are in luck, I have some new ones. Send me a PM with address details and will post 1st class tomorrow - NO PAYMENT for anything required. Regards. Richard.
