Why won’t the mini go above 45.

its Been a question ive been meaning to ask. Once at 45 I just get a load of noise and no power. Has the previous owner rebuilt the carbs wrong or is there another issue? I’m sorry to the triumph faithful but regardless of lack of performance there is no excuse for putting a smile on my face!

Timing advancing correctly? Check the curve at different RPMS, idle and 4000 should be enough. No vac attached, and check against book figure.

Points/condenser/rotor all good?

Carb needle/s correct? Balanced/ mixture set? Air filter flowing?

Cam timed up correctly? Valves adjusted?

Could be all sorts, but our old mini 1000 would easily whizz past 80 in bod standard form.

Oh Pete, what can I say....must be too used to centralising gears. Sailed through the mot today though.

Obviously not at 45mph or above, though.... :)

Search for the song "Billy Far Out" sung by Andy Irvine about a car that loses gears, one by one, until only reverse is left...
