mpbarrett
Just seen this for sale on a local FB group. "2004 Nissan X-Trail£650 MOT till April 2019 - perfect for someone that can fix cars as the rear shock has gone through the u...pper mount see pictures. No warning lights and runs fine." So its not just Triumphs that rust but I don't think I seen a case where the rear spring support has broken away due to rust and popped into the boot !! enjoy. Colin Lindsay
That's worrying. My nephew has had two X-trails and they're a terrible car, I've been working on the underside of both and they're horrendously rusty. I'll have to check his mountings now. A work colleague bought one from new and returned it after less than two weeks, so apparently even the new ones aren't anything to sing about! Anglefire
That looks more like its been abused and dropped from a great height!
Bordfunker
At least it hasn’t snapped in the middle like some Navarras! Karl
Qu1ckn1ck
Seems to be a Japanese trait. I loved my Mazda MX-5's but hated the rust which began to appear on the underbody and suspension within months of leaving the showroom.
Pete Lewis
yes looks more like speed hump ingress than corrosion Pete

daverclasper
I'm always dead slow over those drastic ones. Often there's a high speed/4x4 modern right up my a.... I do find a fair bit of intolerance, even bullying, driving a relatively small classic. I'm old, but I'm sure they are far more grumpy (sociopathic, even). Does my head in a bit really. Pete Lewis
some prat always has to be in front , its their funeral, but often they take out the innocent, and you find the in front at the next lights some marques seem to attract prats like flies and dog doo doo's shame we are all out for a drive they dont like being overtaken that can bring out some alarming driving when you get the better . Dave just ignore them make em wait Pete

I even hated them in my Disco with its air suspension! And in my current BMW they are truely hateful. When I become incharge, I shall be banning them all and putting speed limits back to something sensible - and stopping the continual raising and lowering - but also enforce them. I do live in a dream world sometimes ?

I had to remove the air suspension in mine after it went down three or four times within months and the compressor failed. Coils were a huge improvement but the drive to the local specialists, to get the computer settings reset from air suspension to coils, was a 40-mile nightmare with the alarm chime constantly sounding to inform me that the (now-removed) air suspension wasn't working... As for speed ramps..... en-route to the Circuit of Ireland Rally in 1980 in a much modified and lowered MG Midget (don't ask... ) the Irish border checkpoint at Aughnacloy had such vicious ones they tore the exhaust clean off, so we had to return home without ever getting near the race... dave.vitesse
We have lots of speed humps around Thatcham. Do they slow down the speeding drivers. NO as nutters just rush them at speed. All they do is cause more pollution and shorten the life of your suspension. Antisocial. Dave
Anglefire
Colin, a few change to coils, but most replace the air compressor and fix the leaks - usually the valve blocks and sometimes the air vessel. I had one compressor under warranty at about 80k and another at about 200k I think. I also had a diagnostic tool that allowed me to do most things. Wasn’t cheap - but I got 3/4 of it back when I sold it.
68vitesse
Often find that if I drive down the middle of the road at the speed bumps with the relatively narrow track of the Vitesse you can go between them. Regards Paul

Wasn’t cheap - but I got 3/4 of it back when I sold it. I had one bag leak, replaced that, one went down for no apparent reason, fixed that, then both went down - compressor failure? I replaced the compressor with a new one which failed in under a month. Add to that two sensor arm replacements and I decided coils was the lesser of two evils. Anglefire
Bag leaks are actually quite rare - I know of 2 - but one at least was caused by misuse ( went from full retracted to full extended and in extended mode very quickly ) i did change all my airbags at about 163k as they essentially wore out.
