daverclasper
Just out of interest, is a bit (can still push the car) of shoe/drum rubbing after adjustment (these are manual adjust on mine) ok, ie, won't get too hot. Thanks, Dave
Pete Lewis
No real problems with shoes kissing the drum , easy .....poke finger through the wheel onto the drum if its sticks and makes sizzling noise Its too hot , no but a simple run with low brake use and carefully feel for heat gentle rubbing will warm , but not heat, If when you spin the wheel and you can hear the shush shush of the shoes ,, no worries Pete
daverclasper
Cheers Pete. Have been adjusting for some time with car not raised, so can't spin wheel and just seeing if it will push move. Is this ok?. Just though if can get max adjustment this way, then easier for me (axle stands in loft, etc). thanks, Dave
Pete Lewis
Ive often done adjustment the same way , car on deck, get out and under wind the adjuster up tight and back off upto 4 clicks (one turn) Has always worked ok. Pete
dougbgt6
Hmm, having the GT6 NOT self adjusters I have to take the drum off, adjust, replace the drum and wheel, spin and apply the brakes. When you do the adjustment you put the shoes off centre, so when you get to the spin bit it can appear tight. Braking re-centralizes the shoes, and "Oh, it's not binding" so you try again. Tedious, but you don't want to be doing this method too often, so you want to get it as close as you can. A 20 minute job, Pete's 2 minute is far too easy for you manual adjusters! Dave, Why are your axel stands in the loft?!! Doug
dave.vitesse
Some of the Lockheed self adjusters have a hole in the drum so you can slacken off the mechanism to take the drums off. Thinks!!! Maybe a hole drilled in the Girling GT6 brake drum so you can do the opposite. i.e Adjust up the brakes? No too sure about that one, but maybe worth a thought. Pete Lewis
job to tell the size , ive dropped two on the floor and fell down one of them where's the cat ? holes sounds like a nice job for a cone cutter /stepped drill Aldi had some not long ago but available all over the place Pete
dave.vitesse
Pete, I guess you would have to drill it from the inside of the drum if you adjusting the brakes up and not off ? Dave
dougbgt6
Pete, They're metric, I need imperial. Doug
Pete Lewis
Dave got a good point i should have implied take the drum off first. Doug the way you drill holes it would look like a thruppenny bit As for the box of holes they are in alphabetic order starts with an A Pete 2

Dave I have drilled a hole in my dolly sprint brake drums (on the face so it can line up with the self-adjusters) and it makes manual adjustment easy if required. Aldo for slackening off.... SpitFire6
Hi, ahh, manual adjusters? My manual adjuster arrived today. The quad adjusting deal is black. Is this because it is dyed black. Maybe case hardened? Mine are always chewed up. Cheers, Iain. Edited March 23, 2019 by Spitfire6 Did not finish.
