There is another option, and that is to use the "Rally" type knob. I have one, find it excellent to use. And can fit the STD gearstick (check with suppliers, there are several threads I believe)

Thanks Clive, I’ll give that a thought - where did you get it?

So whats wrong with what you  have ??

Pete

it’s been removed and replaced with a long, homemade straight rally type stick - a pretty shoddy job. Being straight, it makes it too close to the steering wheel when driving - my watch keeps catching it.

where do the wires go though?

As this homemade stick is solid, the wires just run up the side of the stick. There is no thread on top of the stick so the wires just get pressed against a gear knob which has been loosely fitted with a couple of side retaining screws.

Not stupid at all as has come up on here before and so could be found with a search. First is single rail and second 3 rail, both with OD but the gear change part is similar on non OD units as well. Single has reverse selected by pushing lever to RH side and 3 rail to the LH side......

canley list ukc3282 as avail to order   this is a non OD  single rail gear stick at  £20.11p  use clives type switch or get a column switch

gives you the correct stick for a few ££  but not the knob OD switch set up.

Pete

Steering column shroud is different on the later Spits so you can't use the two-arm version from the early cars or Heralds etc... original single-rail sticks come up for sale all the time although this guy surely must be having a laugh: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-OVERDRIVE-GEAR-LEVER-STICK-SHIFT-SHIFTER-KNOB-WIRES-DOLOMITE-3RAIL-1850/392333073321?hash=item5b58df9ba9:g:kuYAAOSwlQddJGNb

Thanks, I did see those ebay posts. I think the decimal point was put in the wrong place.

I'll agree with you there. There should be others available for a fraction of that.

I have non-O/D versions, but sadly no O/D ones or they'd be on eBay straight away...
