My eldest came round with her sprogs so I finished what is was doing on the GT6 while son-in-law volunteered to put the battery on charge. Next day I reconnected it and the alternator went phutt!. Battery was reverse charged, I turned on the headlights to run it down, took 5 hours. Would it charge again the right way, nope!

First thing I ever did on my first Spitfire! Took the battery out, put it on charge, cleaned the battery tray and then put it back in... back to front. Blew the alternator and had to buy one from Andrew Stone. (Remember him? Belper, Derbyshire?)

I also fell for the old chestnut of reversing the power to the wiper motor of my Herald so that the motor would run in reverse and push against the unworn side of the cog teeth... melted the wiring loom completely. Bought a new loom and wired it up again... the same way. Melted that one too.
