Hotlemon
I currently have the engine and box out of the car and want to drain and refill the overdrive . The drain plug has been rounded off by PO and i cant get it to move . Will heat damage anything internally?
thescrapman
It may well do, just disconnect the gearbox and stand gearbox up and the oil will drain from the OD into the gearbox as they are interconnected . will also give you a better angle for attacking the drain plug
Colin Lindsay
Can you get one of those sockets that digs into the plug, and tightens the more you turn? Very good on rusty nuts especially those that have been rounded off.

Pete Lewis
standing a gearbox on its end is not the best idea as any debris ends up it the bearing up end to drain via the box drain is ok but not 'on end' new plugs are available , and they dont need to be very tight , too many gorilla's around seem to think wraunching up everything is normal Pete
RogerH
You could easily MIG weld a large nut on to the drain plug. The heat shouldn't do any damage - The ali casting would be a massive heat sink Roger

Most were fitted with the hex nut magnetic drain plug from new. Some of the recon people used to take these off and fit the older square non-magnetic type! I agree if the plug is rounded off then weld a big nut on. Dave
