daverclasper
Hi. I keep meaning to check this when car in the air, though keep forgetting. I have Minilite copies, though the spare is original steel wheel. The wheel nuts are the chrome type, blanked off at the end, for standard size studs. Anyone know if I can fit the spare with these, if need be?. Cheers, Dave
Colin Lindsay
Can you try fitting a nut without the wheel on? You'll be able to see how far down the stud it reaches before bottoming out. It may fit all the way to suit a steel wheel but if not, just carry four standard open-ended nuts along with your spare.
daverclasper
Thanks Colin. Are the studs a standard UNF, do you know?.
DanMi
3/8 unf is the standard wheel stud size, but the wheel nuts need the correct taper and I believe are harder than standard

Pete Lewis
generally triumphs have a 60 deg taper are your minilite style nuts just a plain domed nut with a tapered end or do they have a spigot that locates in the wheel hole ?? with a washer face to clamp the wheel and if you still have std 3/8x24 unf studs do your current nuts have sufficient thread engaged , alloy wheel naves are very much thicker than steel naves so you can need longer studs to make it safe or risk not many threads inside the domed nut sorry dave ,all to do with why youre asking
daverclasper
Cheers Pete. The nuts are just a one piece with a taper. Will investigate when I have a moment, though seemed a reasonable length of thread from memory?.
daverclasper
Well, plenty of thread length within the nuts for the spare and the taper looks the same, though the engagement length of the stud threads with the Alloys about 13mm. Is that enough? Dave
daverclasper
The original nut that clamps the spare in the boot, also has about 13mm thread length, so assume ok?.
Pete Lewis
old rule is thread should have l.5 x its diameter but measure length of an original nut , and assume some threads will protrude out side pete
