Pete Lewis
there are production numbers stamped on the chassis , but cant remember where , found them on my Vit6 they are not recorded , i guess some guy on the line had a little book with the chassis /tub/bulkhead/bonnet numbers recorded as it went down the line but whos got that now . dougbgt6
The GT6 chassis number is on top of the cross member underneath the engine, you can't see it till you take the engine out. I suspect on the Vitesse it is somewhere equally inaccessible. It would be useful to know if you suspect a chassis change, but it's not recorded anywhere so as Pete implies there's little point to knowing it. Colin Lindsay
Spot on for Heralds as well, Doug - on the front crossmember just behind the steering rack. The Vitesse engine will overhang this one, true, but with a good torch and mirror you can at least see if it's there, although not what's on it. Gary Flinn
I'm sure there is some sort of ID tag on the top of the Front Outrigger on the Vitesse? But then again it may be as Colin's shown for the Herald🤔
Pete Lewis
guess it was just used for production control , so they knew how many they made each day , in the 60s very little was recorded for any history on Trucks we had track books before computers and anything with a serial number was written in the system worked well great for fraudulant warranty claims , but you had to find the book and thumb thro' it to find the data for a particular chassis no idea what triumph got up to or even if there are any track records held in darkest Gaydon to peruse. PeteH
Obviously a bit hit and miss?. No sign of one anywhere on the front end of the 13/60. IF it was on the Front outrigger they where both replaced, and I don't remember seeing one?.
JohnD
It was a little mild steel strip, tack welded on at each end, and on the front outrigger of a Vitesse as said above. In that position, lashed by road dirt and wet, it had as much chance of surviving as an eclair at a school party. You might find the tack welds!
