Bu##er I have just put it in with the word front at the front ie. front being where my feet are in the pic!

See? It still causes confusion! Do you put it at the back in which case it reads 'front' from the back, or do you put it at the front, in which case it reads 'front' from the front, but that's actually the back?

I refurbished an original spring for my Vitesse after getting through two Reproduction ones which sagged😫

It may be worth a strip down, clean off all the rust, prime/paint and reassemble with new bolts and also replace the 8 rubber buttons (4 per side) which help reduce wear presumably?

I also coated the leaves with a mixture of Dinitrol rust proofing fluid and graphite grease to help prevent wear.

My spring had the same confusing writing although it doesn't matter which way round it's fitted as far as I'm aware.

Regards

Gary

A Triumph transverse spring is symmetrical, it fits either way around.

The story is that assembly workers at Canley were wasting time, putting it on one way, deciding it didn't fit, turning it round, re-deciding and putting it back etc etc.

So The Management decided, mark it on one side with "Front".     And the glitch in the production line was solved!

If you look at the clamps, it's a bolt through a spacer tube with a nut on one end. I always liked to fit them with the nuts to the rear so that they're (very slightly) protected from the worst that the road throws at them, just in case they ever need to come apart.

I've always greased any spring I disassemble and wrapped with Denso tape; it may be pointless but it looks neater, and they never squeak...
