Robin Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 I had an overdrive unit fitted last year to my vitesse mk 2 gearbox. Everything works fine but I've noticed that the gear change is much stiffer after the engine has warmed up - maybe after 10 miles or so of driving. Is this normal? Also, is there an easy way to top up the gearbox oil or do I have to remove the housing from inside the car to get access? Thanks Robin
david lewis Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 i would check the clutch first, how low is your clutch pedal when it is hot. i find topping up the gearbox while lying on my back a real faf so usually take of the g/box cover and do it from the top.
Pete Lewis Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 many cut a hole ( bid enough to get the hand in) in the tunnel up by the clutch pedal so you can hang uoside down , loose your glasses under the pedals and remove to top up the gear oil from inside the car, you can make up a simple rubber or flexible cover to screw on after, there are large rectangular or round grommets available but not all fit the tunnel contour I used a old truck mud flap which is useful for all sorts of reinforced flexible odds and sods after youve check the clutch is clearing ok check also the greasing of the spherical ball and its socket, under the gear lever gaitor these can drag, seize when hot Pete
david lewis Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 thats a good idea about cutting a hole in the gearbox cover--does anyone have the measurements where to cut the hole? sort of x marks the spot. cheers
