david lewis Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 hi all, i bought a set of weller steel wheels on fleabay which were purported to have come off a mk 4 spitfire which i thought was the same as a herald but they do not fit ! are mk 4 hubs different th a 1969 herald? have i made a boo boo. cheers
gt6chris Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Spit, GT6, Herald, Vitesse, Dolomite, TR7 all have 3 3/4" (95.25mm) P.C.D. Various widths and some variation in offset. What is the problem with you wheels? do they fit on the studs? Chris
Steve C Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 Hi David Factory standard MkIV and 1500 wheels fit, and as you can see from the picture on the left, my car is running around on them. Weller are an aftermarket wheel supplier, well-known in the custom car scene in the 1980s, and if they have come off Fleabay, heaven knows what their real provenance is (as opposed to the fantasy island BS spouted by many so-called traders on there in their ads.) Even if the Wellers fit the wheel stud pattern and spacing, the offset may not be right, and can create clearance issues. This may help: http://www.triumphspitfire.com/tireindex.html Good luck Steve C
david lewis Posted June 8, 2015 Author Report Posted June 8, 2015 thanks guys--the wheels fit on to the studs but the studs are not central in the holes ( about 1/8 th inch to the side ) and the centre hole will not pass over protusions on the hubs.the offset is mostly on the inner side of the wheel but there does not seem to be any clearance problems .the wheels are 5.5 j . anyone got any idea what they could be off as they are in good condition so i would like to sell them on so i probably need to measure the p.c.d how do i do that ? cheers
gt6chris Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 You need to check the PCD. (The distance centre to centre between two opposite stud holes) Triumph is 3 3/4" (95.25mm), a lot of Fords are 108mm and almost everything non ford/peugeot uses 4/100 PCD (4 being the number of studs). Once you have the PCD just advertise them with that. People can then decide for themselves and you have only provided the facts. Chris
Clive Posted June 8, 2015 Report Posted June 8, 2015 I reckon pcd is 100mm. That is 4.75mm bigger than small triumphs, so about 1/8". Fit all sorts of cars. Or 4" which is a tad over 100mm, mini sized. Close but no cigar, and mis sold.
david lewis Posted June 8, 2015 Author Report Posted June 8, 2015 thanks again guys,i just measured them and they are 100mm--anyone want them for £40?. cheers
mishmosh Posted June 9, 2015 Report Posted June 9, 2015 If they were sold on ebay as spit wheels. Put in a claim You will get refunded
david lewis Posted June 16, 2015 Author Report Posted June 16, 2015 thanks for all the replies guys--took the wheels back to the seller(local to me) and got my money back but still £30 out of pocket as already fitted twio tyres before we noticed the problem,ah well we live and learn ! i have been offered a set of of wolfrace slot mags off a tr7--will they have the correct offset and wheel nut fit etc. cheers
