Jack Mildenhall Posted October 16, 2020 Report Posted October 16, 2020 Hi can anyone help me? I have been dealing with a minor corrosion problem on the underside rear edge of the boot lid near the number plate lamps. To ease masking the area I released the boot lock, leaving it attached to the internal mechanism. Upon completion of work I reattached the lock and closed the boot. when I later attempted to open the boot it would not release so I removed the lock only to find the linkage had become detached. Does anyone know how to open the boot without the lock connected please? thanks in anticipation Jack
Pete Lewis Posted October 16, 2020 Report Posted October 16, 2020 can you not with a stiff wire/rod get to the operating lever on the lock and give it push/ pull thro the push button aperture ??? Ive never tried Pete
Jack Mildenhall Posted October 16, 2020 Author Report Posted October 16, 2020 Hi Pete, thanks for speedy response,I’ve tried with a long thin screwdriver and even by hand, but cannot physically find anything to push against, does give me a thought though - I shall try with a 90 degree bent screwdriver. Will let you know. regards jack
Pete Lewis Posted October 16, 2020 Report Posted October 16, 2020 yes you need to replicate the rod which pops into a hole in the operating lever on the lock mechanism its in there hiding in the dark
Jack Mildenhall Posted October 17, 2020 Author Report Posted October 17, 2020 Hi again Pete, good idea, will try that, I have some rod about the right diameter and from the Rimmer Bros parts catalogue, can see the correct orientation. may take a while ...Gone fishing!
Jack Mildenhall Posted October 17, 2020 Author Report Posted October 17, 2020 Hi again Pete, made up a short metal rod, suitably bent, and would you believe it, but located the right place first time - job done. many thanks for your time and knowledge, greatly appreciated. Jack 1
