coxy123 Posted November 5, 2020 Report Posted November 5, 2020 I have been unable to locate the sender wire at gauge end. If I ran a new wire , does it have to be a certain thickness/type of wire.
Clive Posted November 5, 2020 Report Posted November 5, 2020 Not really. I don't know what current flows, but I bet it is well under 3A. Not sure what car you have, but most have 10V stabilised supply. Green wire (possibly with a trace colour) from memory. Stabiliser is on teh back of the speedo.
Nigel Clark Posted November 5, 2020 Report Posted November 5, 2020 The sender should have a resistance of about 60 ohms when hot, much higher when cold. With nominal 12 volts, the maximum current flow would be 0.2 amps, very low, so as Clive says almost any cable will suffice. By the way, the original sender wire should emerge from the wiring loom with the alternator or dynamo wires, as the main loom runs forwardalong the left side towards front lights. Nigel
coxy123 Posted November 5, 2020 Author Report Posted November 5, 2020 its a 1500 spitfire. The light green/live wire is there but nothing on the other connection. Haynes manual says its green/blue. cant see it in the mass of spaghetti behind dash. Dont mind running a new wire, just wasnt sure of wire thickness
