David McHugh
Hi Guys, According to the Haynes manual for the 1300 Spitfire engine, the timing should be set to 8 degrees BTDC. I would like to hear your thoughts on this with modern fuels, is this still a good indicator? Thank you in advance. David...
Pete Lewis
Optimum facfory settings were based on using 100+ ron fuels if you use the widely available 97+ you can get close to the book settings if she pinks retard a little till it stops if you try to run on 95ron that was used in the days of triumph for side valves and lawn mowers you dad would not have put 2**Regent in his spitfire but would have some for the mower if you use low grade unleaded retard much further to stop pinking and suffer the corresponding loss of power sooty plugs and worse fuel consumption pete
