Tipidave Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 Hi again, recently the chrome fuel cap has been difficult to locate. There are three brass lugs that need to locate. Is there any way to adjust? I am assuming that the cap needs to breath so as not to create a lock. as another issue, the fuel pipe where it emerges from the tank is loose and wobbly and smelling a bit of fuel. The reserve tank lever will not stay in the ‘main ‘ position. Any idea where I can get a replacement ‘top hat’ style rubber insert. My guess is this is hardened, cracked or otherwise failed. Thanks once again in anticipation of ideas and help
Tipidave Posted December 20, 2020 Author Report Posted December 20, 2020 I should have said... car is my 1966 herald 1209 convertible. 👍
Pete Lewis Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 the fuel cap problem is more likely the tank neck is worn/damaged and the bayonet flanges dont fit the lugs on the cap most old caps locking or not are breathers the dip tube just needs a section of fuel rubber hose cutting to make a olive to fit under the sleeve nut you need to remove the tank to get the dip tube removed if that helps Pete
Tipidave Posted December 21, 2020 Author Report Posted December 21, 2020 Thanks... I will wait until tank is near empty and then get on it 👍👍😀
Pete Lewis Posted December 21, 2020 Report Posted December 21, 2020 if you never use the reserve lever action you can use any plumbing type brass olive , as it only needs to seal and turn the pipe a small amount if you dont use it just nip it up to seal . one advantage of new tanks is this is all left off. odd some people run out of fuel all the time others never have in 50years its a state of mind hic up thingy pete
Tipidave Posted December 24, 2020 Author Report Posted December 24, 2020 I will try nipping it up in the first instance. Thanks.
