johny Posted December 28, 2020 Report Posted December 28, 2020 Looks like finally we might be getting some improved quality parts for our gearboxes: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-SPITFIRE-1500-GEARBOX-OVERHAUL-KIT-With-QUALITY-KSM-BEARINGS/274614886111?hash=item3ff0529edf:g:jHUAAOSwwMJf2gUz
rogerguzzi Posted December 28, 2020 Report Posted December 28, 2020 Hello All That looks a good price for bearings with circlips in good make. The only one thing I did different was to fit a longer needle bearing as you can get one gives a bit more bearing surface! Roger
johny Posted December 28, 2020 Author Report Posted December 28, 2020 Yes those kits are for the single rail but I think all except the needle bearing and some gaskets can be used in the 3 rail. Unfortunately the needle bearing in the earlier gearboxes is imperial so the range of qualities and lengths available is much more limited. I wonder if the layshaft in the kit is any good....
rlubikey Posted December 29, 2020 Report Posted December 29, 2020 Have you seen the front oil seal conversion they do? I've never heard of that for the SC gearbox before! Happy Christmas, Richard
johny Posted December 29, 2020 Author Report Posted December 29, 2020 Dont think they used the scroll type seal in the sixes boxes so Ive never had a problem but a handy mod if you do....
Pete Lewis Posted December 29, 2020 Report Posted December 29, 2020 my 1600 3 syn had a scroll one advantage they dont wear out but may leak if overfilled or parked on porlock hill etc.
