Hiwex Posted January 25, 2021 Report Posted January 25, 2021 Hi, I’m after a pair of Vitesse 6 Type 12 calipers, must be in working or refurbishable condition. Cheers Mike
ahebron Posted January 27, 2021 Report Posted January 27, 2021 If you are really really desperate I have a set but I am in New Zealand. Postage would be a bit. Anything is refurbishable so be careful for what you ask! Adrian
Hiwex Posted January 27, 2021 Author Report Posted January 27, 2021 Thanks Adrian, I appreciate the offer. I’ll be back to you if I haven’t located some in the UK within a month or two. I note your refurbishable point.....
Peter Truman Posted January 27, 2021 Report Posted January 27, 2021 I got a new set of new LH & RH type 12 calipers for the daughters Mk2 Spit around 20yrs ago from a chap who used to race Formulea Vee he advised they were used on those models, maybe worth a check up to see availability?
thescrapman Posted January 27, 2021 Report Posted January 27, 2021 If you get desperate I have a couple of pairs of type 12 out in the garage. No idea what condition but I thunk 1 set was last on the road in mid70s as they came off a Herald I rescued from a garage that had had a heavy front end crash, twice. Don't think the type 12 s matched the tuned engine the guy had fitted.
Hiwex Posted January 28, 2021 Author Report Posted January 28, 2021 Thanks, as long as they can be brought back to life with a seal kit, I’m very interested, can you drop me a text to 07801 239050 to let me kNow what you want for them? cheers Mike
thescrapman Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 I will get the compressor fired up tomorrow and see if the pistons shift.
Pete Lewis Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 air pressure is only say 90psi hydraulic pressure 1000psi as an alternative ........ a wanner grease gun would be a better option ,you can even fill it with Dot4 Pete
NonMember Posted January 29, 2021 Report Posted January 29, 2021 Also, hydraulic fluid (or grease or oil) is essentially incompressible, which means the pistons don't get fired across the room when they start to budge.
thescrapman Posted January 30, 2021 Report Posted January 30, 2021 Ended up spending a couple of hours making a device to push pistons out. Cylinder was a Hyundai one I had on the shelf ( I have No idea where it came from!) And a Triumph clutch pedal, and a lump of 6*2.
thescrapman Posted January 30, 2021 Report Posted January 30, 2021 2 calipers stripped. Pistons will polish up nicely. Bleed nipples free. Will send you an SMS message shortly
Colin Lindsay Posted January 30, 2021 Report Posted January 30, 2021 Wish mine were in that condition, I've just started refurbishing a pair... whilst looking for other parts I found stainless pistons, seal kits and even the little round seal for the two caliper halves in a drawer, so as I am doing nothing else at present, I may as well. I think I'll have fun getting the pistons out of the other one...

I have a second pair with moving pistons, and a third pair that look about the same as your other one, but one f the pistons did move under air pressure amazingly.
Hiwex Posted January 30, 2021 Author Report Posted January 30, 2021 Thanks All, I await your message Scrapman 🙂 Cheers Mike
