68vitesse Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 Been thinking of new hub caps and wheel trims for my Vitesse Mk1, has any one tried the stainless ones on offer?. Colin Lindsay Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 For only £5 difference they'd be worth a try... wonder how they look regarding shininess in comparison to chrome? Hard to tell form the photo but at least (hopefully) rust would be a thing of the past.
Chris A Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 I'd also be tempted by the stainless ones. I bought a set of chrome ones in 2016 and there are one or two tiny specks of rust showing. When I cleaned them at the weekend most disappeared just with a soapy clothe. I will give them a treatment, clear laqueur/nail polish when the weather is good and dry.
Paul H Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 I use https://www.toolstation.com/industrial-spray-lacquer-500ml/p44132 for the alloy bumpers on my Vitesse , does a good job Paul
Chris A Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 Hi Paul, thanks for the info. I knew just as I posted my comments that someone would come along with advice. I'll look for similar products here in France
Rabbit Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 I bought a set of these hub caps for my Spitfire MkIII. 4 years ago. Unfortunately illness took over and it was not until last year that I managed to get back on the car. Anyway, sprayed wheels etc, went to fit hub caps and they are much to tight on the wheels. You need a long crowbar to actually lever them off the lugs and even then they will disappear with a huge 'bang'. Chrome appears good but too damned tight. The correct hub cap remover stands NO chance to remove them. Mine were around £100 but, no receipt so I doubt if I could return them. I anyone want them, they are FREE to a good home plus postage. I am in Northants.

Colin Lindsay Posted February 22, 2021 Report Posted February 22, 2021 I lost two on the way to MOT the Herald... obviously they weren't on quite right. One I found - it overtook me like a frisbee so I saw where it went; the other.... no. Better tight than loose. Anyway you might need one of these to remove them easily and without damage...
